New Gymnasium Doors Improve ADA Accessibility
Customer Type: College
Industry: Education
PROBLEM
A college’s gym doors were worn out and the commons floor was significantly lower than the gym floor, leading to safety issues for everyone passing through. Furthermore, the uneven threshold caused mobility issues for handicap visitors.
SOLUTION
DH Pace proposed a two-step solution. One, the old single doors were replaced with complete storefront doors and frames with sidelite panels, providing double doors in place of the original door and sidelite. The color was selected to match the existing aesthetic of the building. Two, the commons floor was cut and an ADA ramp was poured to even the threshold and eliminate the safety hazard and accessibility issue in the doorway. The result is a more inviting and larger entrance with the ability to have better wheelchair/ADA access.
